The Media Architecture Biennale is partnering with the Amsterdam Light Festival that will open its annual open-air exhibition during the biennale. The Light Festival is currently looking for concepts to develop for its 2020-21 edition.

Practical
Concepts can be submitted from November 1st 2019 till January 20th 2020 (16:00 CET). All submissions will be reviewed during a selection procedure which consists of two consecutive rounds. Together with the festival’s artistic team, an international jury will select the artists who will be invited to create an artwork for Edition #9.
All participating artists will be matched with a curator, lighting designer and technical producer. As an artist you create a new light artwork in co-creation with Amsterdam Light Festival. Edition #9 takes place from November 26th 2020 till January 17th 2021.

Theme: When Nature Calls
There are many forces influencing Earth and her climate. Natural ones, like erupting volcanoes and crashing meteorites. But mankind just might have the biggest impact on planet Earth. Mother Earth is dying and cries out to her inhabitants: this has to stop! But no matter her anger, she herself offers us solutions to resolve our mistakes and challenges us to work within a more sustainable and harmonious ecosystem.
Art can reveal the possibilities and experimental ideas to create a new ecosystem. During Edition #9 we will spotlight both sides of the story. The issues, danger and disappointment at what our own actions have caused and the marvel, potential and solutions nature has to offer us.
