One of our MAB chairs, Waldemar Jenek, has shared with us a mock-up that he created using a combination of different technology tools, as part of his PhD research at Queensland University of Technology.
His thesis is titled: “Developing a curriculum for designing media architecture with augmented Reality tools and virtual reality tools” and for his next case study, he is exploring the potentials of designing Media Architecture Façades with a combination of different technology tools. He will work with architecture students to explore what kind of impact virtual reality has on the design process for media architecture and how design ideas can be communicated.
In this context, he started to develop a mock-up using Rhinocerous with Grasshopper in order to design a parametric structure. Using the live-connection to ARCHICAD (Graphisoft), he was able to adjust and document the pilot project. Finally, he employed the live-connection from ARCHICAD to Twinmotion based on Unreal Engine (Epic Games) using video materials to simulate a media façade in virtual reality.
Waldemar Jenek is a PhD candidate in the School of Design and part of Urban Informatics group within QUT. His principal research interests are technologies used by architects and how they influence the design work. He is fascinated by interactive architecture and how architectural design can be linked with the environment and people. His research interests include how students can be educated employing technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality.
