Kavita Gonsalves lead Marcus Foth, and MAB chairs Glenda Caldwell and Waldemar Jenek, in the development of a video presentation for the “Connections: Exploring Heritage, Architecture, Cities, Art, Media” conference.
The presentation is titled: “Radical Placemaking: Immersive, Experiential and Activist Approaches for Marginalised Communities” and it proposes the concept of Radical Placemaking as a placemaking tactic of the marginalized where the term ‘Radical’ comes from Paulo Freire’s seminal work ‘Pedagogy of the Oppressed’. The elements of ‘Radical Placemaking’ are categorized into ‘who’, ‘how’ and ‘what’. This forms a significant part of Kavita Gonsalves’ PhD work at Urban Informatics, QUTDesign Lab.
