MINI-SYMPOSIUM | AI in the Neighborhood

MINI-SYMPOSIUM | AI in the Neighborhood

November 20, 2020

Undeniable, AI holds many implications for our society and the futures of our cities. However, AI – like any other tech – is not value-free or without ramifications. Less known are the possible applications and impacts on the urban fabric. To understand and uncover these implications, the students of the ArtCenter College Media Design Practices MFA took a critical and art-driven approach. In a radical exploration, they imagined AI’s futures for the neighborhood, a level of scale both related to individual’s association as their day to day private and collective living environment – as well as the units that make up the city. What possible urban futures does AI behold – once it has entered and gets rooted in the neighborhood?
