Panel One: Digital Publics – Immersive Experience
Since the development of CAVE technologies in the 1990’s the vision of immersive experiences at public scale has been pursued. Supported by research platforms developing technical and interactive know-how, through to high-end entertainment outcomes wowing the world, this creative sector is emerging as an increasingly viable platform for multi-user interactive storytelling, discovery, and meaning making experiences.
A panel of artists, producers, and academics will unpack the current landscape and forward trends, reflect upon current challenges, and near future possibilities, and consider the import of language to frame and articulate the field.
Panel Two: The Role of Data in Digital Placemaking and Publics
The Media Architecture Biennale has long been the premier venue for showcasing the latest innovation and thinking in situated community engagement and digital placemaking practices. With the advent of the smart city, urban data and city analytics have started to be embraced by local governments and industry to optimise city services. This panel will discuss how the power of smart city data can be made more accessible and be put into the hands of communities to create better urban spaces and digital publics for all.
A panel comprising expertise from research and practice will ponder questions such as, what are the foundations for data ethics and good data practices? What is the role of data and placemaking in creating digital publics? How can communities be empowered to actively participate in smart city analytics?
